Running Bucket List revised...

I was revisiting an old post about the best running events in Australia (in my opinion), so here is a revised list of the runs I would like to do or have loved. I enjoy both road and trail but I avoid hardcore trails (and crowds). I’m sure Buffalo Stampede, Surfcoast Century, Wonderland, etc. would make the cut for someone else. And there are many I’ve left out like Sharpy’s Beer Run, Devilbend and Run for the Young that I loved and have a special place in my heart. But this is where my list stands today (maybe that will change).

I have a goal to run a marathon in every state/territory in Australia, so I still need to research and decide on Tasmania, NSW, SA, WA and NT! (All suggestions welcome.) So here's my unfinished list:

Road events;

1. Canberra Marathon (ACT) – this was my first marathon in 2014 and I loved it! I’ve also run the half marathon in 2016. I’d love to go back to run the 50km.

2. Great Ocean Road (VIC) – I ran the marathon in 2015, half marathon in 2016 and ultra marathon in 2017. The Great Ocean Road is a spectacular and famously scenic road. If you participate in this event, make sure you stay for the weekend.

3. Sunshine Coast Marathon (QLD) – this has been on my bucket list for years. I was supposed to run it last month but due to an injury, I only ran a section of it.  The Sunshine Coast is one of my favourite places I've ever been to (and lived in)!

4. Melbourne Marathon (VIC) – Although this is a crowded run, I’m from Melbourne and this is where I hold my PB so I should include it. It’s a fast, flat course and attracts many international runners. It shows off the best of Melbourne.

5. Wings for Life World Run (VIC) – I’m an ambassador for Wings for Life World Run. There are a few reasons why I chose this run; the cause – 100% of your entry fee goes towards spinal cord research (which I’m passionate about) and it’s run simultaneously all over the world. In Melbourne, it takes place at night (creating an unique atmosphere).

6. City 2 Surf (NSW) – I ran this years ago and although it’s a very big and busy event, it was so much fun! Atmosphere is crazy! It’s 14km but a challenging, Australian run.

Trail events;

1. Two Bays trail run (VIC) – I ran 28km in 2014, I volunteered in 2016 and I ran 56km in 2017! It has a great atmosphere and community spirit.  I'd recommend you run this event at least once.

2. Marysville Marathon (VIC) – I ran this in 2016 and it was one of my most memorable and meaningful runs.

3. Trailsplus You Yangs 30km (VIC) – I’ve run this a few times but still need to break 3 hours! One day I will be healthy enough to give it my best!

5. Great Train Race (Puffing Billy) (VIC) – I’ve run this a few times over the years. It’s the race against the train! Awesome, hilly run and great atmosphere. An iconic run, not to be missed :-)

6. Ultra-Trail Australia (UTA) (NSW) – I haven’t participated in this run yet but it’s on my bucket list in some capacity!

Road/trail;

1. Portsea Twilight (VIC) – we run this every year and it's one of my favourite runs. It's short, scenic, hilly and fun :-)

A few other runs I’m interested in (and would love to hear about);

1.     Berry Long Run (VIC) - https://berrylongrun.com
2.     Carcoar Cup 60km (NSW) - https://www.carcoarcup.com.au
3.     Tower Trail Marathon (SA) - http://reflexionfitness.com.au/towertrailrun/
4.     Blackall 50/100 (QLD) - http://runqueensland.com.au/blackall-100/
